Useful pain
Run, don't walk, to your nearest bookstore and get Peter Cameron's new novel, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You. I could go on and on about it, but I'd rather just say: Trust me.
The book accomplishes the amazing feat of having practically no plot in the conventional sense and yet being utterly un-put-downable. It's all about perception, insight, humor, and voice voice voice. Try these lines: "I just kind of zoned out, forgot who and where and what I was. Just let everything go, turned the net of myself inside out and let all the worried desperate fish swim away."
Read this book!
